It’s been close to 40 years, since talk of an airport in Pickering started and now, it seems that idea could be pretty much dead. Ajax-Pickering MP Chris Alexander says a recent report by the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, determined that the GTA, would not need an airport until at least 2027, and he says the government is now looking at other uses for the land in north Pickering. Alexander says in order to accomplish this, they will be consulting both stakeholders and residents in the area, to see how best to use the land. Some of the vacant homes on the land have become fire hazards and Alexander says they need to be torn down. However, homes with heritage value are being looked at on a case-by-case basis.
