TOWN OF WHITBY ENTERS PURCHASE AND SALE AGREEMENT FOR SPA DEVELOPMENT ON FORMER CULLEN GARDENS SITE

Whitby, November 15, 2011 – The Corporation of the Town of Whitby and Auberge et Spa Le Nordik Inc. (Chelsea, Quebec) have entered into a Purchase and Sale Agreement for the main building and 3 hectares of land located on the 34.6 hectare former Cullen Gardens site owned by the Town. The closing date for the $2,658,750 sale will be on or before May 14, 2013.
Le Nordik will be using the main building and outdoor area to build a year round heat therapy spa with two restaurants, a retail boutique and a small conference area. The sale excludes on site heritage buildings (Lynde House, Puckrin House and Log Cabin) which the Town will be relocating in the future.
The Town has designated 26.6 hectares of valley land on this site as open space and set aside approximately 4 hectares of table land at the north end of the property for parkland. The Town also maintains ownership of approximately 1 hectare of developable land immediately abutting Taunton Road.
