Transport Canada says the Pickering lands are still the best option for an airport. The study was released Monday, saying the Greater Golden Horseshoe will most likely need an airport by 2027 and based on the site size, proximity to highways and low population density the Pickering Lands should continue to be set aside for aviation use. Durham Radio spoke with Land over Landings spokesperson Mary Delaney following the release of the report, and she says she’s upset not over the fact that she’ll have an airport in her backyard, but over how the land will be used. She says the group is against any kind of development and argues it should be respected for its water and agricultural uses.
