Current Hwy. 407 owners will build Durham extension Province announces 407 east extension will be built by 2015

DURHAM — Durham residents are closer to driving on the Hwy. 407 east extension after the Province announced a preferred bidder for the contract to build the road.

In a media release late Wednesday afternoon, the Province announced the preferred bidder for the project is the 407 East Development Group, whose key members are Spain-based Cintra Infraestructuras S.A. and Montreal’s SNC-Lavalin. The two companies are part of the consortium that built existing portions of the 407 and paid $3.1 billion for a 99-year lease for it.
