Major student housing project turned down by Oshawa council

A major student housing project proposed for north Oshawa was turned down by council Tuesday night. A developer was looking to build a 4-storey, 75 unit apartment building on Ritson Road, near Coldstream Drive, which is between Taunton and Conlin. A staff report recommended the proposal be rejected, and council did just that. Mayor John Henry says there is currently a lack of apartment accommodations in Oshawa, not just for students but for all residents. A number of area residents voiced their opposition to the project citing several concerns including traffic and parking.
