The federal government is extending a program which bridges together small business and post-secondary education. The Applied Research Commercialization Initiative will run through March of 2013, and be given an additional $15 million. Minister of State Gary Goodyear says small business is the lifeblood of the Canadian economy, and the extension will allow them to be more competitive. Goodyear says the feedback from the program since its inception last year has been tremendous, as more than 300 companies have partnered with colleges and universities. So far, UOIT has been given $739,000 and partnered up with 13 businesses, including ones in Ajax, Oshawa and Bowmanville.
