Councillors in Pickering to freeze salaries in 2012

Pickering councillors have approved a motion to freeze their own salaries for 2012. In an effort to show an understanding of what people are going through in these tough economic times, Councillor Jennifer O’Connell says they’ve decided to forgo their annual pay raise. Some councillors were opposed to the move however, such as Doug Dickerson, who points out the situation in Whitchurch-Stouffville, where they recently proposed a 43 per cent pay hike in order to catch salaries up after a four-year freeze.
