Town of Whitby approves a 2.79 percent tax increase

The Town of Whitby’s 2012 budget was passed by council Thursday night, and it does come with a modest tax increase. The 2.79 percent increase will add an additional $36 to the municipal portion of the property tax bill on a home valued at $300,000. Budget Chair Elizabeth Roy credits council and staff for their diligent work on the financial blue print, which she say makes clear the differences between resident’s needs and wants. The total operating budget is roughly $98.5 million.
