Unemployment rate down in February, but fewer people were looking for work

The Canadian unemployment rate was lower last month, but it’s not all good news. Stats Canada says the rate sipped two-notches to 7.4 per cent, as nearly 38,000 people stopped looking for work. Senior Economist with the Canadian Labour Congress, Angela McEwen says it’s hard to say where these workers are going, after giving up the job-hunt. McEwen says it’s incredibly hard and discouraging to look for work day-after-day that just isn’t there. Jobless rates held steady in both Oshawa at 7.4 per cent, and Toronto at 8.6 per cent.
