Location Context: Our new meeting location is at the Second Floor Theatre Room overlooking the track at the Abilities Centre. If you go to the front besk of the Abilities Centre they will walk you there. Or simply follow the ramp up and you will walk past the Theatre. The parking lot is located on the West Side of the building along Gordon Street.

* Real Estate Investor Strategy Spotlight – Laurissa Tavares – Residential Financing Manager – National Bank – Financing Garden Suites and ADUs
* Keynote Speaker – Jeremy Kraemer– Experiences Reducing Carbon Footprint in Residential Housing – Jeremy will help Durham REI members learn how to reduce carbon footprint and improve energy efficiency in residential housing. Topics will include heat pumps (ground source and air source), electrification, energy efficiency improvements, accessing rebate & grant programs, what greenhouse gases are and where they’re emitted for residential housing, and answer the question “what is net zero?”. Jeremy will discuss these topics based on his experiences installing a ground-source heat pump (“geothermal”) system and implementing energy efficiency improvements and accessing rebate programs when he lived in Scarborough and most recently his net-zero ready build in Lindsay which is a fully electrified 3-unit investment property that eliminated Enbridge and fossil fuels to align his investment with his personal values.
* Keynote Speaker – Mike Bouma – How to Leverage Travel Points – Get ready for a crash course on travel hacking. You’ll learn the basics of how to earn a large number of points, the “do’s and don’ts” of credit card churning, how to redeem points for the greatest value, what credit cards offer the greatest opportunities currently and general tips and tricks that I use to travel all over the world for a fraction of retail. Whether your goal is a business class flight to Europe, a family trip to Disneyworld, or an all inclusive in Mexico credit card points can help reduce the out of pocket cost.

Speaker Showcase:
Mike Bouma is a U of T graduate, a second-generation Realtor, and a real estate investor who has been active in the Durham Region for the past twenty years. When not working he and his wife are busy with two active children who take part in competitive dance and competitive Jiu-Jitsu. In his free time, he indulges his next biggest passion: travel. Having traveled to over 30 countries on five continents Mike has leveraged credit card points for nearly 10 years to make his travels less expensive and more comfortable.
Jeremy Kraemer has been a member of Durham REI since 2019 and has experience in student rental, duplex conversion, joint ventures, land development, and coach house construction. He lives in Lindsay with his wife, two children and two cats. In his day job he is a Technical Director with GHD, a multidisciplinary engineering consulting company with 11,000 people globally. He is a registered professional engineer in Ontario reducing greenhouse gas emissions from municipal wastewater treatment plants in Durham, York, and Halton Regions and the City of Toronto and elsewhere across North America. He holds a PhD in civil environmental engineering from the University of Toronto.
